Broadline – the mixed parasite top spot for cats

Broadline Top Spot is an easy-to-use, all-in-one external and internal parasite control product for cats. It is proven to be safe for cats and kittens while killing and managing ticks and fleas for one month. Broadline Top Spot also rids cats of tapeworms, hookworms and roundworms and is effective in killing biting lice and mange mites.

Broadline is the newest antiparasitic product from Merial and is available from veterinarians and vet shops. It is safe to use on cats and kittens older than 7 months, weighing more than 0.6 kg. Broadline Top Spot will control flea bite hypersensitivity by flea control and will kill newly-acquired fleas between 8 to 24 hours. It also prevents flea eggs from hatching.

Broadline for cats contains four active ingredients: fipronil, (S)-methoprene, eprinomectin and praziquantel.

  • Fipronil kills adult ticks and fleas.
  • (S)-methoprene is an insect growth regulator that prevents flea eggs from hatching and blocks the development of juvenile flea stages.
  • Eprinomectin kills roundworms and biting lice.
  • Praziquantel kills tapeworms.

Application recommendations

Broadline is a cat-only product and should be applied externally as a top-spot. It should be applied in one spot on the skin of the cat. The exact position is on the back of the neck, between the shoulder blades of cats after parting the hair. Care should be taken not to allow contact with the human skin and it is recommended to wash hands after use. For more information, refer to the directions supplied with the packaging.

From an application frequency point of view, Broadline should be applied responsibly. Although it is safe to use up to once a month, the application frequency should be based on the presence, or risk, of both internal and external parasites. Application frequency should be in accordance with the recommendations of your family veterinarian.

Broadline packages / units

Being a top-spot, Broadline ensures accurate and stress-free treatment. It is available in two sizes:

  • Small cats and kittens weighing < 2.5 kg
  • Large cats weighing over 2.5 kg – 7.5 kg

For cats weighing more than 7.5kg, a combination of the two sizes can be given in accordance with the weight.


Broadline should not be used on sick animals, kittens younger than 7 months, dogs or rabbits. In the case of a skin reaction after the use of Broadline, future application should be reconsidered. Broadline has not been tested to be used on pregnant and nursing queens.
